Northern Westchester Hospital's 'Pre-Hab' Helps Athlete Recover In Record Time

As a marathon runner and skier, Whitney's knees are crucial to doing what she loves. That's why when a sudden accident in Vermont rendered her virtually immobile, she looked to the experts at Northern Westchester Hospital to help her return to form.

After tearing her ACL skiing, Whitney sought out the knee experts at NWH to help her get back in the bindings as soon as possible.

"I was skiing up at Stowe and I fell down a mountain and tore my ACL," said the Westchester resident. "I was in shock and I was upset, because I knew that I had injured my knee significantly." Soon after, Whitney came to the realization that her extensive training was in jeopardy. "I really wanted to get back to as close as I was, in terms of my sports and athletic ability."

After friends recommended she meet with Dr. Evan Karas and the Northern Westchester Hospital surgical team, she elected to undergo knee surgery to repair the tear.

Whitney was especially impressed with the hospital's innovative 'pre-hab' philosophy, which readies patients for surgery in an effort to minimize post-op recovery times.

"The team at Northern Westchester Hospital really prepare you for your surgery. I had about six weeks of physical therapy to do, to get me ready for the surgery, so I felt really confident when the surgery was about to happen."

Since undergoing her surgery, Whitney has only positive feelings about her experience with NWH. "My rehab was done at Northern Westchester Hospital's Physical Therapy Department at Chappaqua Crossing," she said. "The clinical care here at Northern Westchester Hospital is amazing."
